The Cincinnati Bengals won’t activate quarterback Joe Burrow for the Week 12 game against the New England Patriots, according to a new report.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the following: “Bengals QB Joe Burrow, attempting to come back just over two months after surgery to repair Grade 3 turf toe, won’t be moved to the active roster just yet, source said. He’ll remain on IR.”
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Bengals made the decision on Friday, giving the start to veteran quarterback Joe Flacco against the Patriots.

The Bengals had until 4 p.m. ET on Saturday to make a decision on Burrow’s status. But the team activating him before the game against the Patriots didn’t actually mean he would get the start over Joe Flacco.
Next Thursday’s primetime Thanksgiving game against the Baltimore Ravens has long been the speculated target for Burrow’s return. Ramping up in practice before Week 12, then getting a short week of practice in before that game is pretty standard, given the circumstances.
