HOUSTON – The Buffalo Bills took their fourth loss of the season on Thursday night, falling 23-19 to the Texans at Houston in a game full of sacks and turnovers.

The Bills had no answer for the Texans’ relentless defense, which sacked quarterback Josh Allen eight times, the most he has ever taken in a single game. The Bills’ first turnover came in the second quarter, when Josh Allen had a pass tipped and picked off, followed by a fumble in the third quarter and another costly interception late into the fourth quarter. Allen shared his reaction to the game.

DRIVE-BY-DRIVE RECAP: Texans shut down Bills, giving Josh Allen nightmares in 23-19 final

“It’s not fun. I ran into a couple myself. I’ve got to be better with throwing the ball away and living to see another down and letting this play some situational football and pinning them deep,” he said. “Too many times I was going backwards and I’ve got to be better on that.”

Dion Dawkins said the interception in the fourth quarter shows that football is a game of inches. “It’s just football, man. It’s hard to be at your best at all times,” he said.

Head Coach Sean McDermott praised the Bills’ defensive effort in the second half but acknowledged the team needs to improve.

“I thought the effort in the second half by the defense was outstanding. It gave us a chance to win, but the drive before half, the big play, the chunk right there, we’ve got to be better,” McDermott said.

With the loss, the Bills fall further behind in the AFC East race. The New England Patriots, who currently lead the Bills’ division at 9-2, can extend their lead with a win on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bills’ 7-4 record means they’re now in sixth place in the AFC. If the season were to end today, the Bills would hold the second-place wildcard spot out of three total wild cards.
