Charlie Cummings breaks down his prediction and pick for Sunday’s Week 12 clash between the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans.
It’s the alliteration bowl on Sunday between the Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans. A mounting majority of people find alliteration to be linguistically lazy. This wily writer finds it to be wholly whimsical. With a gargantuan gulf between these two teams, the betting market is bound to be bodaciously baffling.
The Seahawks enter as 12.5-point road favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, while the Titans are listed as +625 underdogs. The game’s total is set at 40.5 points. Here is my preview, pick and prediction for Sunday’s Week 12 matchup between the Seahawks and Titans.
Seahawks vs. Titans Preview
Seattle’s offensive production has been its story of the year. New quarterback Sam Darnold has formed a strong connection with breakout wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The 23-year-old Ohio State product leads the NFL in receiving yards (1,148) and yards per target (11.8). His massive 37.2% target share speaks to his dominance, but also exposes a flaw in this Seahawks offense.
Last week’s 21-19 loss to the Rams was devastating. The two teams were tied for first place in the NFC West, and the game came down to whether the Rams could slow Seattle’s passing attack. With four picks, the answer was a resounding yes. When targeting JSN, Darnold was 9/12 for 105 yards and an interception; to the rest of his receivers, he was 20/32 for 174 yards and three interceptions.
Fortunately, the Titans don’t have a good enough defense to limit JSN, or any receivers for that matter. They’re in the bottom 10 in terms of yards allowed per passing attempt while conceding a 15/5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. And they sure don’t have the offense to make up for it.
Tennessee is dead last in points per game. Things haven’t gotten better since firing Brian Callahan; they’re 0-4 since Mike McCoy took over as the interim coach. The passing game is nonexistent, and the running game is hardly better. Things will have to get a lot worse in Tennessee before they get better.
Seahawks vs. Titans Prediction, Pick
There are bad teams that are compelling. The Tennessee Titans are not one of those teams. Even with Seattle’s flaws, I don’t see an avenue to victory here. In fact, we are headed for a severe blowout in Music City. The high-powered Seahawks offense will storm right past the Titans.
