The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to face the Indianapolis Colts at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 12 of the 2025 NFL season.

On Saturday, the team made a lone practice squad elevation. This comes after the team decided against making a practice squad elevation in Week 11 against the Denver Broncos. This time around, they’re mimicking the elevation strategy they used in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills.

Chiefs elevate RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire from the practice squad for Week 12 vs. Colts

With Isiah Pacheco still out of the lineup, the Chiefs will seemingly go back to a running back rotation of Kareem Hunt, Brashard Smith, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Last week, the Chiefs opted to go with free agent RB Elijah Mitchell alongside Hunt and Smith. He played just seven offensive snaps in the game, recording no carries. His lone target in the passing game ended up being a Patrick Mahomes interception. While Clyde Edwards-Helaire didn’t do much more in Week 9 with two carries for a handful of yards, it’s clear that this team has a measure of trust with Edwards-Helaire that they simply don’t have with Mitchell.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire quick facts

Former No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft

Selected ahead of Colts RB Jonathan Taylor

2X Super Bowl champion (LVII, LVIII)

Andy Reid will likely point out that Edwards-Helaire’s usage is matchup-dependent. Edwards-Helaire’s lone game against the Colts came in 2022, and it featured one of the weirdest stat lines you’ll ever see. He had seven carries for 0 yards and one rushing touchdown. He also caught 5-of-5 passes for 39 yards.

This marks the second time that Edwards-Helaire has been elevated so far this season. He’ll have one more standard elevation available during the NFL’s regular season. After three elevations, the team will have to risk Edwards-Helaire on waivers to elevate him to the 53-man roster. Hopefully, they won’t have to worry about that with RB Isiah Pacheco making progress in his recovery from an MCL sprain.
