The Eagles (8-2) are playing the Dallas Cowboys (4-5-1) at AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Let’s get to the predictions:
Reuben Frank (7-3)
Everything points to the Eagles winning this game. The Cowboys are 0-4 vs. winning teams and the Eagles are 4-1. The Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the league and the Eagles have one of the best. The four teams the Cowboys have defeated are 9-33. The Eagles have defeated teams that are 8-2, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3-1. The Eagles’ coach has the 4th-best won-loss record in NFL history. The Cowboys’ coach has four career wins. The Eagles find ways to win. The Cowboys find ways to lose. The Eagles are tied with the Rams as the best road team in the NFC at 4-1. The Cowboys lost at home to the Cards. You’d have to be an idiot to pick against the Eagles. I guess I’m an idiot. Honestly, I have no confidence in the Eagles’ offense to score enough points to offset a pretty high-octane Cowboys offense. Even if the Eagles hold Dak Prescott, George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, Jake Ferguson, Javonte Williams and Co. to, say, 17 points, I have no faith in the Eagles scoring 18. Their offense is a mess, their coaching is a mess, their play calling is a mess, they can’t get their all-pro running back going, they can’t get their all-pro receiver going, and their Super Bowl MVP quarterback is coming off his worst two-game stretch in years. Logic says Eagles but my instincts say Dallas.

I took my shot last week. I finally picked against the Eagles and they made me pay for it by beating the Lions — albeit without figuring out much offensively. I’m at the point where I’m not convinced the Eagles are going to push a button and get their offense going. But their defense has earned my trust. I know the Cowboys have a high-flying attack and they will have the benefit of playing on the fast turf at AT&T Stadium unlike the Lions, who had to face the Eagles on a windy day at the Linc. But the Eagles’ defense is legit and I think they’re going to perform really well the rest of the way. Could the Eagles lose this game? Sure. But the Cowboys’ wins this season have come over the Giants, Jets, Commanders and Raiders. They’re going to face a tougher test on Sunday and I think they won’t be up for it.

Dallas week always has a higher sense of priority for me, no matter what the record are. Yes it’s a division game, but more so because it was ingrained in me as a rookie to dislike the Star of the Evil Empire. Defensively, I know they will step up and play well. DC Vic Fangio will scheme to stop CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens with the pass rush. Yes I said pass rush. They will make things tough on QB Dak Prescott, which will force bad passes to them. DT Jalen Carter should be thinking about payback from Game 1 — Spit Gate. I expect straight dominance against rookie G Tyler Booker the entire game. Offensively, I just need everyone to get on the same page. The O-line injury situation is definitely a factor, but we are talented enough to overcome it. OT Fred Johnson will be fine at right tackle. And it looks like Cam Jurgens will play. I just need them to stop with the pre-snap penalties. If we can get past those, we can run this offense efficiently. As long as we stay in 3rd and manageable, we will score points.

The Eagles offense has to get right on Sunday against the 30th ranked Cowboys defense or we’re going to hit critical mass on anonymous-sourced reporting on their issues. It was just one month ago that Jalen Hurts authored the two highest passer ratings of his career, but two ugly offensive outings later and we’re left with a lot of the same questions that cropped up last season. The offense’s problems have been two-fold in my eyes, and neither has to do with the quarterback. They can’t run the ball and first-time offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo doesn’t have the answers or experience as a play caller to overcome that. Perhaps digging into a conservative, don’t turn the ball over philosophy is the right move when you can’t consistently move the ball. But I think it all changes on Sunday. The Eagles air it out, the defense keeps Dak Prescott and his plentiful weapons in check, and the NFC East gets all but wrapped up.

I think this game is going to be more interesting than people think with the way the Dallas Cowboys offense and Dak Prescott are playing. Prescott is 21-2 at home against NFC East opponents and this Eagles defense is going to have to remain as dominant as they have been the last two weeks if they don’t want this game to be uncomfortably close. No Lane Johnson really worries me, and I don’t think this offense is going to suddenly surge in this matchup, even with a Cowboys defense that ranks third worst in the league. I predict this game will stay on script with what we have seen all season – Jalen Hurts protect the football and doesn’t take many chances; the defense will dictate play… and whoever makes the least number of mistakes wins.
