The Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts went head-to-head on Sunday, pulling out a 23-20 win in overtime.

“This is exactly what we needed,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters after the team’s win. “To win against a really good football team when the game’s not going your way, you could’ve folded in that situation and been kind of for the rest of the season. The guys responded and then found a way to win. Every single unit.

“Offense, we found a way at the end. Defense stood tall multiple times to give us chances, and then Harrison (Butker) and (Matt) Araiza did a great job at flipping the field and making field goals. We needed a win like this, and now let’s just try to build off of it.”

With the season starting to near the end, NFL teams are making last-minute decision to shape their rosters. For the Chiefs, that meant adding a new player and letting go of another one on Monday.

The Chiefs announced that they’re parting ways with wide receiver Jimmy Holiday, who was on the team’s practice squad, just one day after winning their sixth game of the year. Undrafted out of Louisiana Tech earlier this year, Holiday was with the Chiefs during the offseason but didn’t play in a regular-season game.

Kansas City saying farewell to Holiday was a necessary cut to make room for running back Dameon Pierce, who was recently signed after being released by the Houston Texans. Pierce played college football for the Florida Gators and was picked by the Texans in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft.
