Do Baltimore Ravens fans on social media “know ball”?
Jermaine Johnson sure doesn’t think so.
On the Monday following a 23-10 loss in Baltimore, the New York Jets’ fourth-year defensive end took time out of his day to duel with fans on X about his performance in the game.
Johnson started things off by replying to a tweet from a Ravens fan account that claimed Baltimore right tackle Roger Rosengarten held Johnson in check, citing that Johnson finished with zero pressures on 18 snaps against Rosengarten. Johnson retorted that he “cooked” Rosengarten despite “chip help,” and that Lamar Jackson “saved him” from being tagged for allowing any sacks or hits.
From there, Ravens fans fired back at the Florida State product. One fan posted an All-22 clip of Johnson apparently getting blocked out of the rush lane by Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard on Derrick Henry’s fourth-and-goal touchdown run in the third quarter.
Lmao this how I know y’all don’t know ball. On this call my gap is inside of 70. When I sensed him and 42 trying to wash the line down I played back into 42 and I put him in the gap, closing the b and c gap the best I can using his body. Common football knowledge, if they’re… https://t.co/iKdT4zK2VJ

It’s an ugly look at first glance, but Johnson offered an explanation to defend his performance on the play.
Johnson, who lined up in the C gap between the right tackle and the tight end (Ricard), claimed that his gap on this call was “inside of 70 [RT Rosengarten],” i.e., the B gap. Johnson says that when he “sensed [Rosengarten] and [Ricard] trying to wash the line down,” he “played back into [Ricard] and put him in the gap, closing the B and C gap the best I can.”

The former first-round pick doesn’t expect the average Ravens fan to understand.
“Common football knowledge, if they’re trying to wash you put his body in the gap. But I don’t expect y’all to know this lol.”
Either way, the result was a Derrick Henry touchdown en route to a 23-10 Ravens win.
Johnson finished the game with four tackles on 56 defensive snaps. According to Pro Football Focus, he added three pressures and did not miss any tackles.
In eight games for the Jets this season, Johnson has recorded 29 total tackles, 28 total pressures, three sacks, five quarterback hits, and one pass deflection.
