The Las Vegas Raiders officially named Greg Olson as their interim offensive coordinator after dismissing Chip Kelly from that role. It’ll represent Olson’s third stint as the Raiders’ OC. He previously served in the same role with the franchise in 2013-14 and 2018-2021.
Olson will attempt to reinvigorate an offense that currently ranks tied for dead-last in points scored with 165. Olson must consider making changes to breathe life into this unit. We’ve identified three changes in particular that could help.

Make changes to the offensive line
Kelly and Pete Carroll have been hellbent on starting Will Putnam at center after moving Jordan Meredith to right guard following Jackson Powers-Johnson’s injury. The experiment has failed miserably in back-to-back games. Meredith is better at center, and Putnam is completely unplayable. Rookie guard Caleb Rogers should finally get his opportunity.
Play the rookie receivers
Veteran receiver Tyler Lockett played a sizable 60 snaps in Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. By comparison, rookies Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech earned 30 and nine snaps respectively. Why are the 2-9 Raiders hellbent on playing a washed-up Lockett? They need to start developing Thornton Jr. and Bech for next season.

Get Ashton Jeanty going
The Raiders’ run-game ranks 31st in the league, averaging a pathetic 79.5 yards per contest. Olson must find a way to get rookie running back Ashton Jeanty going. There’s no easy-button answer, but perhaps finding the right combination on the offensive line would help provide Jeanty with some room to operate.
