The NFL announced that Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig has been suspended one game for his actions during the team’s 20-9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
Moehrig will appeal the suspension, according to a league source and his appeal will be heard Wednesday.
If the suspension is upheld, Moehrig will miss Carolina’s game Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams at Bank of America Stadium.

Cameras appeared to show Moehrig throwing a punch below the belt of 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings in the final few minutes of the Monday night game, when the game was already decided. After the game, Moehrig said he expected to get fined for the low hit but attributed his actions to “dirty stuff” from Jennings.
“I mean nothing ever dirty in my game has ever been like that unless it was, you know, kind of, earned, you know what I’m saying?” Moehrig said.
Jennings responded with a couple of open-handed punches at Moehrig on the field after the game ended.
“He and I had a good conversation. Obviously, I’ll keep all those things private between Tre and I,” Panthers coach Dave Canales said Tuesday.
Canales revealed that Moehrig also is dealing with an ankle injury and is considered day-to-day.
Without Moehrig, the Panthers could potentially be severely shorthanded Sunday against a team that thrives in the passing game with Matthew Stafford leading the way. Star cornerback Jaycee Horn, who intercepted two Brock Purdy passes Monday, suffered a concussion in the game and backup cornerback Corey Thornton suffered a fractured fibula in his left leg that will require season-ending surgery. The Rams come into town with arguably the most elite passing offense in the NFL, leading the league with 30 touchdowns through the air this season and the highest passer rating in the NFL.
