Meet the NY Jets’ 2025 NFL Draft class, player-by-player
Who did the Jets pick in the 2025 NFL Draft? Check out the entire class, pick by pick.
It’s been over a decade since the New York Jets appeared on Thanksgiving Day.
The most recent occurrence was 13 years ago in an AFC East contest against Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium in 2012.
It would soon be a game to remember, but for all the wrong reasons for the Jets.
One play would forever make Jets fans want to forget this divisional game ever took place and instead be at home celebrating Thanksgiving.
Jets on Thanksgiving: Remember the Butt Fumble?2012: Patriots 49, Jets 19
It was already not looking good early for the Jets, who were down 14-0 midway through the second quarter to the Patriots.
On first and 10 from their own 31-yard line, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez went to hand the ball off to running back Shonn Greene.
Only problem was that Sanchez turned the wrong way and had to run the ball up in the middle himself.
That resulted in one of the biggest bloopers in Jets and NFL history. Sanchez tried running through what he though was a hole on the right side of the offensive line, but instead Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork shoved right guard Brandon Moore into Sanchez’s path, resulting in the QB running straight into Moore’s backside and fumbling the ball.
Patriots defensive back Steve Gregory picked up the ball up and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown to give New England a 21-0 lead near the midway point of the second quarter.
The play would infamously be deemed the “Butt Fumble” and the Jets would go on to trail, 35-3, at halftime and lose by 30 points one month after taking Brady and Co. to overtime a month earlier in Foxboro where they fell short, 29-26, to New England in OT at Gillette Stadium.
It would ultimately be the last season that Sanchez played in New York. After a shoulder injury kept him sidelined for the entire 2013 season, he was released the following offseason in 2014 and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
