The Minnesota Vikings are facing some notable quarterback uncertainty heading into Sunday’s Week 13 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

Starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy is progressing through the NFL‘s concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in this past weekend’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, and veteran signal caller Carson Wentz is out for the remainder of the season with a left shoulder injury.

Undrafted rookie Max Brosmer is expected to make his first career start in Sunday’s clash against the Seahawks. And up until Thursday afternoon, he was the only healthy quarterback option on the Minnesota depth chart.

The Vikings announced a notable quarterback move on Thursday, signing Desmond Ridder to the practice squad.

Ridder entered the league as a third-round draft pick for the Atlanta Falcons in 2022. The former Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback started 17 games in his first two NFL seasons, recording 3,544 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with a 64.0 completion percentage — amassing an 8-9 record as a starter.

Ridder appeared in six games for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, completing 61.2% of his pass attempts for 458 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

McCarthy was limited in practice on Wednesday as he continues to move through the league’s concussion protocol. The first-year NFL starter has thrown two interceptions in each of his last three appearances as starting quarterback for the Vikings.

Veteran wide receiver Justin Jefferson addressed McCarthy’s struggles when speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

“It’s early,” Jefferson said. “He’s new to the game. He’s new to the NFL. He’s learning just like everyone else has to learn as a rookie, and he obviously had to go through the mental stage of having to overcome an injury the first year. So just a tough transition for him. But I feel like just him learning these past couple games, and of course learning [during] the stretch of this season, I feel like he’s going to bounce back in a different way than everybody else is going to think so.”

Sunday’s matchup against the Seahawks will kickoff at 4:05 p.m. ET.
