DALLAS —

They are one of the most iconic cheer squads in the world: the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

For one young woman from Kearney, that dream became reality.

“I really knew that this is where I am meant to be,” said Sophia Brown, a new member of the famed cheer team.

Brown didn’t always envision herself professionally dancing. Growing up, she trained in martial arts.

“I have a black belt in karate,” she said.

Eventually, cheerleading at Kearney High School changed her path. That’s when she first set her sights on the star-studded Cowboys sidelines.

“It was what I wanted to do and my mom was like this is so cool. I couldn’t even imagine doing that one day,” Brown said.

After making the team in her second year of tryouts, Brown says the moment still doesn’t feel real.

“It was the most electrifying and amazing feeling when I made that team,” she said.

The whirlwind year has included cheering at AT&T Stadium and even a surprise appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“I met him and I was like am I here. Those moments literally pinch me awake me from this dream,” Brown said.

Now, she’ll perform on one of the biggest football days of the year.

On Thanksgiving Day, in front of a national audience, she’ll be cheering on the Cowboys against a team close to home.

“This year is going to be something special. Very different and very special to me. A really amazing day,” she said.
