Washington Commanders star Von Miller believes Sunday’s clash against his former team, the Denver Broncos, represents a “great test” for the organization amidst a challenging season.

Having made the NFC Championship game last season, the Commanders 2025 campaign has been something of a disappointment for Washington, who currently sit at 3-8 on the year. Sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels, who won the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award last year, has dealt with injuries and missed time this season, while the Commanders defense has also been abjectly bad.

Last time out, Miller and co fell to the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, losing 16-13. They have not won a game since early October when they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 27-10.

However, while the chances of Washington making the postseason are slim to none, Miller has urged his teammates to use Sunday night’s clash against Denver as a litmus test for the Commanders moving forward.

Speaking ahead of the home game against the Broncos, who Miller won Super Bowl 50 with and was named MVP, the veteran pass rusher said: “You can’t really worry about the past. We’ve got a really good team coming in, and it will be a great test for us.”

He continued: “All we can do is stay present and put our best foot forward. We’re a capable team. If we play the way that I know we can play, we’ll have success.

“Still got a lot of talent on this team, we’re getting a lot of guys back from injury — some of the dogs on our team. Just go out there and play your game.

“It’s Sunday Night Football. If you can’t get up for Sunday Night Football versus the Denver Broncos, for me personally, it’ll be a special night.”

However, the reality of the situation is that Washington is a significant underdog heading into the clash against Denver, which remains locked in contention for the No.1 seed in the AFC. Sean Payton’s team currently sits top of the AFC West, with only the New England Patriots ahead of them at 10-2.

Denver is 9-2 on the year, with the Broncos sitting a game ahead of the Indianapolis Colts, who currently occupy the AFC three-seed.

They are also the favorite to win the AFC West this season, but will need to put their best foot forward in their final six games. After the clash against the Commanders, Denver will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders, before taking on a four-game gauntlet of playoff hopefuls to close out the season in the form of the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers.
