The Dallas Cowboys defense is likely to gain another reinforcement for next week’s game against the Detroit Lions.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday morning during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) that cornerback Trevon Diggs, barring any setbacks, should make his return to action during the Thursday night matchup.

“He’ll be on the field,” Jones said. “Could have been on the field, wanted to be on the field (on Thanksgiving vs. Kansas City), but he’ll be on the field at Detroit, in my view.”

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Friday that Diggs will likely have his practice window opened on Sunday, though he didn’t commit to any exact timeline for a return to game action beyond that.

“We will take it one day at a time. I’m excited to see Trevon, how he looks and how he moves around and all that stuff,” Schottenheimer said. “We’ll just take one day at a time, but I know he’s excited to get back out there again.”

Diggs was placed on injured reserve last month following a concussion he suffered at his home — an accident in which details were scarce. Diggs has also dealt with a knee injury opposite of the one he had season-ending surgery on last year.

While Diggs hasn’t practiced yet, he has been seen during practice sprinting and going through workouts with other players on injured reserve.

The Cowboys chose not to open Diggs’ window last week due to the short turnaround before the game on Thanksgiving Day.

Now, the Cowboys have a full seven-day preparation period before facing the Lions.
