Liam Coen has been everything the Jaguars have hoped for in his first season

  • December 1, 2025

Well, that went about as we expected. Nothing crazy. Nothing spectacular, just a dominating win over the Titans pretty much from start to finish.

Thanks to a little bit of help from Houston, if everything ended right now, the Jags would be AFC South champs.

That sets up a huge showdown with the Colts on Sunday. The calendar has been marked for this one for weeks, but now the Colts are sliding. They have lost back-to-back games while the Jags are figuring it out.

Liam Coen said he doesn’t know the big picture, hasn’t talked to the team about the big picture, and doesn’t want to know the big picture. Well, I do know the big picture, and the Jaguars control their destiny with one of the easiest schedules the rest of the way in the NFL. The Jags play the Titans again. They play the Jets and the struggling Colts twice. I mean, their quarterback has a broken bone in his leg. I mean, come on.

So, the South is looking closer and closer to being in their grasp. It may be time to start looking at an even bigger picture than that. We might need to whisper this, but the No. 1 seed and the playoff road going through Jacksonville aren’t that far-fetched. The Patriots and Broncos are both two games ahead of the Jags, and the Jags have a date with the Broncos in a couple of weeks. They might need a little help to get there, but there might need to be some Giants fans in Jacksonville on Monday night.

Still a long way to go, but this all goes back to Shad Khan finally getting it right. We know how this song and dance goes; Coen won’t win coach of the year because it will go to someone like Ben Johnson or someone in a bigger market. But Coen has already earned the award, if you ask me.

He has engineered this season beautifully. There have been injuries all over the offensive line and a makeshift secondary at times. The pass rush was MIA for the first half of the season, and Coen has had to flip his wide receiver room midway through the year because of play and injuries. He has guided this team through the storm and has them on the brink of the playoffs. Yup, that sounds like a coach of the year resume if I have ever heard one. But the season isn’t over yet. There’s still time for him to add some more likes to that resume.
