Detroit Lions fall to Green Bay Packers: Shawn Windsor and Jeff Seidel break down Thanksgiving loss at Ford Field on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.
The Detroit Lions lost their No. 1 tight end to season-ending back surgery, and there’s no immediate timetable for them to get their No. 2 tight end back on the field.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said Sunday, Nov. 30, the team still is getting second opinions on what he termed a “trachea” injury Wright suffered in the Lions’ Nov. 23 win over the New York Giants.
Wright was listed on the Lions’ injury report last week with a neck injury. He said his injury is similar to one Frank Ragnow suffered in 2020, when he fractured cartilege in his throat, but defered to Campbell and trainers to provide further details.
“We’re still sending out scans for what he – his trachea and just seeing if there’s any other second opinions that would change, I guess, the outlook for him playing,” Campbell said. “And right now there’s really nothing right now that would change that, so we’re just kind of in the – and I know that frustrates him. He wants to play. But we’re just kind of in a holding pattern right now.”
Wright was injured on the Lions’ second offensive snap against the Giants when he got hit in the throat. He finished the game but sat out last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Lions (7-5) lost starting tight end Sam LaPorta to back surgery after a Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders, and played last week with Ross Dwelley as their starting tight end and practice-squad promotions Anthony Firkser and Zach Horton as backups.
Campbell also said center Graham Glasgow is feeling “better” after sitting out the Packers game with a knee injury.
The Lions held a walk-through Sunday and will practice Monday and Tuesday in advance of their home game Thursday (8:15 p.m., Prime Video) against the Dallas Cowboys.
