There weren’t many competitive games during Week 13 of the NFL season. But Sunday’s slate delivered several of the best catches of the season.
Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, Raiders tight end Brock Bowers and Commanders wide receiver Treylon Burks all made spectacular catches. Each player needed only one hand to pull in a big play.

In a back-and-forth game between the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers that provided plenty of entertainment, Nacua delivered a strong contender for catch of the year.
Early in the fourth quarter, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a pass from the midfield logo to a streaking Nacua down the left sideline inside the Carolina 15-yard line. Nacua, who was in single coverage against Panthers cornerback Mike Jackson, went up with his right hand and corralled the ball for a 31-yard gain. Rams running back Kyren Williams scored on a 7-yard run on the ensuing play to give the Rams a 28-24 lead.
The Panthers came into the game with a limited secondary. Star cornerback Jaycee Horn missed the game with a concussion, and safety Tre’von Moehrig was out serving a one-game suspension for his actions in last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Jackson was a key part of the secondary that stepped up in a big way to help contain the Rams’ elite passing attack and slow down Stafford. While Jackson was on the wrong end of the play against Nacua, his pick-six of Stafford earlier in the game was instrumental in the Panthers pulling off the 31-28 upset.

Even on Nacua’s eye-popping catch, Jackson did his job well in coverage. He didn’t bite on the double move and was stride-for-stride with Nacua, and he was even in position to potentially make a play on the ball. However, Nacua is an elite receiver, and he showed off his top-tier talent on that play, beating out Jackson.
Nacua’s catch was one of the best in recent memory.
It’s been over a decade since Odell Beckham Jr. made his ridiculous catch against the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football,” but that play usually serves as the modern-day standard for a strong one-handed effort. New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson had the Jordan logo one-handed catch last year, and Justin Jefferson’s one-handed grab on fourth down against the Buffalo Bills in 2022 is also one of the best in recent history.
Bowers’ one-handed snag
An atypical tight end, Bowers has become a dangerous goal-line weapon. The Raiders’ top receiver ran a fade route from the 6-yard line against the Chargers with his team trailing 24-7.
Quarterback Geno Smith targeted Bowers on the right side of the end zone, but the throw came in low and outside. Bowers extended his left hand to snag the ball just before it hit the turf, then secured it against his chest.

The fact that the grab came from a tight end made it even more remarkable.
Bowers finished the game with four catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns. After playing through an injury for several games, Bowers has strung together several impressive performances.
The first-round pick is up to 49 catches for 573 yards and five touchdowns. While the Raiders are 2-10 and have experienced a ton of turmoil, Bowers has been a bright spot.

Burks has had a disappointing career since being drafted in the first round in 2022 by the Tennessee Titans.
Since signing with the Commanders, though, he has shown the flashes of potential that made him such a tantalizing prospect out of Arkansas. On “Sunday Night Football,” he made the play of his career.
Burks ran a fade route from the 5-yard line against Broncos cornerback Riley Moss. Moss played off coverage, meaning Burks had limited space. Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota threw the ball to the back of the end zone, and Moss played the ball perfectly.
Burks elevated into the air, using only one hand to reach out and snag the ball way over his head. It was only his second career touchdown.
