Terrace Marshall with Brock Bowers.
When the Las Vegas Raiders hired John Spytek as general manager and Pete Carroll as head coach, they decided against bringing back a lot of the team’s free agents who were on the 2024 team. Considering they went 4-13, it’s not a surprise Spytek and Carroll preferred to look at other players.
Wide receiver was a position that the Raiders needed a lot of help at last season after Davante Adams was traded. One player they brought in was former second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr.
The former Carolina Panthers wide receiver played seven games with the Raiders last season, catching three passes for 41 yards. He spent the offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was part of the final roster cuts before the season.
He’s now getting another chance to make plays for the team. The Eagles announced on Monday that they’ve signed Marshall to the practice squad.
Marshall was a key part of the historic 2019 LSU team that went undefeated and won the National Championship. His teammates Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase have developed into two of the best wide receivers in the NFL, but Marshall hasn’t been able to find that type of success.
Raiders Still Dealing With WR Issues
The Raiders’ wide receiver room was a major problem last season, but the team didn’t do much to fix it this offseason. They did use draft picks on Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton, but neither player has yet to make a big impact.
Jakobi Meyers came into the season as the No. 1 wide receiver, but he got traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars before the deadline. Tre Tucker appears to be the No. 1 wide receiver right now, but when he gets open, Geno Smith frequently overthrows him.
Wide receiver is going to be a massive need for the Raiders heading into the offseason. Unfortunately, the team has many other needs, so it’ll be interesting to see which needs they prioritize over others.
Brock Bowers is Still Elite
The one silver lining for the Raiders is that tight end Brock Bowers has proven that his historic rookie season was not a fluke. Against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13, Bowers caught two touchdown passes.
One of them was a miraculous one-handed grab that looked like it was going to be an incomplete pass.
“That dude is built different,” Bech said of the play, via Raiders.com. “There’s not many people on this Earth that could make that play.”
It was not a great pass from Smith, and the quarterback was in awe over what Bowers did.
“Brock Bowers is a tremendous player,” Smith said. “We see it week in and week out. He makes plays all over the field. He does things not many guys can do and we’ve got to continue to find ways to get him in space and get him the ball. He’s a great player.”
Bowers is arguably the Raiders’ best building block, so they can feel good knowing that they have a potential Hall of Fame talent on the roster for the foreseeable future.
