Jaguars show what good teams do against inferior teams

The Jaguars improved to 8-4 by doing what good teams should do — handle an inferior opponent. They didn’t Tennessee do anything after first drive.

Austin Trammell made one huge play for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season.

But 30 days later, he’s unemployed.

Trammell, a fourth-year wide receiver and kick returner, was waived by the Jaguars on Dec. 1 after playing in five games this season.

The former Rice wide receiver caught three passes for 46 yards in his previous four games but had four targets with no receptions in a 25-3 victory over Tennessee on Nov. 30. He dropped a deep ball from Trevor Lawrence in the fourth quarter that would have gone for 27 yards.

Trammell had one return for the Jaguars this season, taking the opening kickoff of overtime against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 2 for 54 yards to the Raiders’ 44. That gave Lawrence and the offense a short field and they scored on a 1-yard run by Travis Etienne and then held on to win 30-29.

Austin Trammell played with Falcons, Rams

Trammell signed with Atlanta in 2021 as an undrafted free agent and played only one game after spending most of the season on the practice squad. He then signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 and caught six passes for 42 yards in two seasons, playing in 21 games.

Trammell first came to the Jaguars in 2024 and was signed to the practice squad. He played in one game, catching two passes for 40 yards in the loss to Philadelphia. He was re-signed this season by the new coaching staff (Jaguars coach Liam Coen was the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2022 when Trammell was on the team) and, after being cut at the end of camp, was re-signed again to the practice squad.

He was elevated to the active roster before the Raiders game. Trammell caught two passes for 33 yards in the loss at Houston and one for 13 yards in the victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Trammell, 27, has played in 30 NFL games with 11 receptions for 128 yards. He has returned 27 punts for 190 yards (7.0 per return) and seven kickoffs for 155 yards (22.1).
