GLENDALE – Following the team’s Week 13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Arizona Cardinals face another battle regarding their franchise quarterback Kyler Murray. The two-time Pro Bowler was placed on injury reserve for a foot injury suffered in Week 5, but wasn’t placed until following Week 9. This week is the earliest that the team could activate Murray from the IR and open his practice window. However, that isn’t what Arizona is going to do.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke with the media on Monday, stating that Murray will miss Week 14 and not be activated or have his practice window open this week.

Gannon on Murray’s injury status for next week:

When Murray went down in Week 5, his foot injury wasn’t seen as serious and expected back in the lineup soon. The plan shifted after the play of backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, which seemingly threw out seven years of a relationship that Murray has formed with the franchise. His silent benching following Week 9 might’ve been the final nail in the coffin of Murray in Arizona, with this latest news the cherry on top.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) talks with head coach Jonathan Gannon during training camp at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Aug. 6, 2025.

During the three year partnership, the duo of Gannon and Murray have a record 13-20 together, and 3-14 when the 28-year-old is out of the lineup. The first year was a wash, with Murray missing half the year recovering from his torn ACL. In 2024, the pair built confidence that this team is ready to compete by falling just short of the playoffs. All the good will earned that year were quickly dashed with an atrocious 2025 season.

The team has gone through two separate four-plus game losing streaks and have been eliminated from playoff contention the earliest in 40 years. Murray has often been used as a scapegoat for the Cardinals since being drafted first overall back in 2019, but this recent stretch without him proves the problems lie deeper than expected.

Regardless, Murray might’ve already played his final game in Arizona and might not be activated at all for the rest of the year.
