The New York Jets head into Week 14 fresh off a 27-24 win against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Jets (3-9) have been at the bottom of NFL national power rankings polls most weeks throughout the year.
Is this week going to be different?

26. New York Jets (30): The quiet acquisition of WR Adonai Mitchell in the Gardner deal, which also netted two first-rounders, could really render this trade one-sided at some point. Trust the process.

25. Jets (No. 27; 3-9): How different will the roster look next year?

Sunday: Beat Falcons 27-24
Best-case scenario: A late-season surge
It’s too much to ask the Jets to really get on a roll. But if they’re still competing hard and showing improvement even with a depleted roster after the trade deadline, that’s a good sign for first-year coach Aaron Glenn.

Week 13 Result: Won vs. Atlanta 27-24
Aside from the team earning its third victory of the season, Adonai Mitchell experiencing a breakout contest for the Jets deserves headline-grabbing attention. Mitchell caught eight passes for 102 yards and a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons. Mitchell felt like a throw-in as part of the Sauce Gardner trade.
However, the Colts are currently sputtering, while Gardner left Sunday’s contest with a calf injury. The Jets already have a WR1 in Garrett Wilson when he’s healthy. But Mitchell could give Gang Green a dynamic duo when both are in the lineup and the team somehow gets better quarterback play.

26. Jets (+5)
They have won three of five games, which shows some fight. That’s the good news for Aaron Glenn in his first season. The bad news is they have a long way to go.

26. New York Jets (+1)
They had absolutely no answers for Falcons RB Bijan Robinson, but stayed close enough to pull out a last-second win anyway. Don’t ask how. Just enjoy it, unless you were rooting for a higher draft pick.

Last week’s ranking: No. 29Last week’s result: beat Falcons, 27–24This week: vs. Dolphins
Since Week 11, OC Tanner Engstrand and the Jets’ offense has been barreling toward a positive EPA. In that short window, New York is 23rd in EPA, ahead of the Buccaneers, Chargers, Ravens and a handful of other quality teams, coordinators and or quarterbacks. I think Engstrand has provided the answers with some smart passing concepts that are leading to breakthroughs for new faces like Adonai Mitchell.

X factor for final stretch: Defensive end Will McDonald IV
McDonald, a 2023 first-round pick, is on pace for his second double-digit sack season, but he has had stretches of inconsistency. Four of his seven sacks came in Week 10 against the Browns. His pressure percentage of 11.7% is down from last season’s 16.3%, per NFL Next Gen Stats. The Jets have to make a decision on McDonald’s fifth-year option by May. Right now, it’s projected at $14.9 million (fully guaranteed) for 2027.
