Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson was highly complimentary of both Jeff Hafley’s defense and quarterback Jordan Love while discussing the Green Bay Packers before Sunday’s showdown at Lambeau Field.

Johnson said the Packers defense “might be the best defense we’ve seen all year” while also describing the Packers offense as a “dangerous problem.”

“It’s a good team. They are playing good football right now. They’ve really come on, especially these last three games,” Johnson said Tuesday. “Offense is playing at a high level. The quarterback is very accurate, so we have a challenge on that side. And this defense might be the best defense we’ve seen all year. All hands on deck, it’s going to take all three phases for us this week.”

Johnson, the former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, has the Bears at 9-3. He’s the offense’s playcaller for the Bears, and he understands the challenge ahead of facing Micah Parsons, Rashan Gary, Quay Walker, Edgerrin Cooper, Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams within Hafley’s defense.

“Personnel wise, they are pretty loaded across the board,” Johnson said. “You’ve got multiple guys up front you have to be aware of, starting with Micah. Do a great job moving him around, so it’s hard to get a beat on where he’ll be. Rashan Gary is still playing at a high level. They have a lot of depth up there too. You can tell they are really well coached. They do a great job shedding blocks on their front line. With the linebackers, a lot of respect for Quay Walker, he’s been doing it at a high level now for a number of years. Cooper, I don’t think he was healthy when I was calling games last year against them, but he shows up all over the tape, he’s flying around. They are matchup issues for your backs in pass pro. You can tell. They bring it. Fast players, sideline to sideline. I think these safeties, they are probably the two best safeties we’ve seen all year long. They are extremely active in the run game, they are all over the field. So we have a tall task at hand here at hand. When you combine it with scheme, I think Hafley does a great job of making it simple for them, and yet to the offense it can seem fairly complex, and those guys just go out and play really, really fast. And that’s what shows up all over the tape.”

The Packers defense ranks sixth in points allowed and fourth in yards allowed per game and yards allowed per play through 13 weeks.

Facing Matt LaFleur’s offense — which is beginning to catch fire — is another challenge Johnson is aware of ahead of Sunday. He’s particularly aware of how well Love is playing at quarterback, the speed of the receivers and the improvement of the run game.

“(LaFleur) has been doing it for a long time now as well. He’s had a lot of success in this division and in this conference,” Johnson said. “It’s going to be a big challenge because their offense can put up points in bunches. Between the quarterback playing at such a high level, extremely accurate, he’s willing to look down the barrel and take one in the chin while delivering an accurate ball. We saw that last week with the game on the line there on fourth down, I thought that was one of the better throws all year long from him. Their wideouts are getting healthy, they have speed, they are really deep, so you can’t just hone in on one guy, you have to be able to cover all of them. I know they lost Tucker Kraft, who was a phenomenal player, but Musgrave is no one to overlook because he’s capable of being a weapon as well. When you combine all that with a running game that is starting to heat up, it’s a dangerous problem”
