NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Titans ended their four-game home stand with nothing to show for it and now sit at 1-11 as they prepare to face one of the NFL’s biggest challenges.
The Titans will travel to Cleveland to face Myles Garrett and the Browns, with rookie quarterback Cam Ward needing protection against the league’s sack leader. Ward has taken a league-high 48 sacks this season.
Garrett has recorded 19 sacks this year, with 15 coming in his last six games. The defensive lineman also leads the league with 28 tackles for loss.
Tennessee offensive linemen recognize the challenge ahead. Peter Skoronski said Garrett has “all the traits,” including “size, speed, strength.”
“He basically like teleported four yards on that sack he had last week,” Skoronski said. “I think he’s one of one.”
Right tackle JC Latham called Garrett “a trench hall of famer, one of the best to ever do it.”
“You assess every play you go against him, you have to treat it like it’s the biggest play of the game,” Latham said.
Ward acknowledged Garrett’s reputation.
“Probably the best player that there is at that position,” Ward said. “And he’s proved that game in and game out. So we got to do our job of not letting him affect the game.”
With just four total wins between the two teams, the matchup carries little weight. However, Garrett has a chance to break the single-season sack record, needing just four more sacks. The record currently sits at 22.5 sacks; Garrett has 19. The defensive end has already recorded two five-sack games this season.
