The Philadelphia Eagles might be leading the NFC East, but this season has been far from joy for the fan base. The team has struggled recently, dropping two straight games, with the latest loss being a home defeat to the Chicago Bears.

That loss now gives the Bears a key tiebreaker over the Eagles for playoff seeding, and if the season ended today, the Bears would have the number one seed while Philly would be the three-seed. This is not what fans envisioned after winning the Super Bowl earlier this year.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Eagles are escaping this nightmare anytime soon, and it’s given former Patriots defensive back and current NFL analyst Devin McCourty cause for concern. When asked by Dan Patrick if he was more concerned about the Eagles or the Chiefs, McCourty said the Eagles’ struggles are hard to ignore.

“I’m more concerned about the Eagles,” McCourty said on The Dan Patrick Show. “The Eagles, to me, they’re just underachieving. I kind of was like ‘Hey don’t get too concerned’ until last week when I watched Chicago beat Philly at what Philly does the best. Their defensive line, their front, they pushed ’em around. That was alarming for me and I think they need to fix that right away.”

Devin McCourty hit the nail on the head with Eagles criticism

McCourty certainly isn’t wrong here. The Eagles have underachieved tremendously this year, and their flaws have come to the forefront during their two-game losing streak. Their offense is stagnant, the defense is soft, and it just feels like everything is off.

This time last year, the Eagles were in the midst of a 10-game winning streak and won 12 of their final 13 regular season games. This year’s team has shown no signs of being able to go on a win streak like that at all.

Sure, the Eagles will probably end up winning their division, but what will they do with that in the playoffs? Will they rise to the occasion like they did time after time last year, or will this team continue to fold like a cheap lawn chair in those moments?

McCourty’s comments are something Eagles fans have certainly noticed about this team, and if they can’t fix those mistakes, other teams will take note and follow that blueprint against them week after week.
