Disney+ has announced the first simulcast NFL Monday Night Football game, which will also be the first traditional NFL game broadcast available for standalone Disney+ subscribers.

According to the press release, the first Monday Night Football to be simulcast on Disney+ alongside ABC will be the Week 16 San Francisco 49ers – Indianapolis Colts game on December 22 at 8pm ET.

This simulcast is a milestone for Disney+, as it marks the first traditional NFL game broadcast to be made available for standalone Disney+ subscribers. The game will also be available on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and the ESPN App.

Live Sports on Disney+

The announcement follows Disney’s increased live sports offerings on its streaming platform. Next week on Monday, December 8, the real-time animated alternate-telecast Monsters Funday Football will transform the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Chargers game at SoFi Stadium into an animated event featuring Monsters, Inc. characters. It follows two other successful animated alternate-telecasts, 2023’s Toy Story Funday Football and 2024’s The Simpsons Funday Football.

Additionally, Disney+ also broadcasts NBA, NHL, MLB, and college football games.

On October 22, the NFL announced it approved a massive Disney & ESPN media deal. The monumental agreement, which was finalized back in August, would give ESPN control of the NFL Network among other assets, while giving the NFL a 10% equity stake in ESPN. It now faces government approval before being finalized. If approved, ESPN would likely air its first Super Bowl for the 2026-27 year, alongside Disney-owned ABC and potentially on Disney+.
