San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is putting together a season for the history books. While he’s averaging a career-low 3.6 yards per carry, his versatility as a playmaker in both the running and passing game makes him one of quarterback Brock Purdy‘s most valuable weapons.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently shared stats on social media that illustrate just how remarkable McCaffrey’s 2025 campaign has been.
H/t to Mike Masala of Niners Wire for the find.
Joining the 800-800 club
McCaffrey leads the NFL with 1,655 scrimmage yards, including 849 rushing and 806 receiving. That performance puts him in elite company. Only Roger Craig (1985) and Marshall Faulk (1998) have recorded at least 800 rushing and 800 receiving yards in their first 13 games of a season.
Not his first time
This marks the third season in McCaffrey’s career with at least 800 yards both rushing and receiving, tying him with Faulk for the most such seasons in NFL history.
On pace for a 1,000-1,000 season
McCaffrey is on track for his second 1,000-1,000 season, which he first accomplished in 2019. If he reaches that milestone again, he would become the first player in NFL history with multiple 1,000-yard rushing and receiving seasons.
Through Week 13, McCaffrey is on pace for over 1,100 rushing yards and 1,050 receiving yards this season.
Leading all running backs in receptions
McCaffrey has 85 receptions, ranking fourth in the NFL. He has 31 more than any other running back. This is McCaffrey’s fifth career season with at least 80 catches, and his first since 2022, tying Faulk for the most by a running back in NFL history.
