NFL Overreactions Week 13

USAT’s Prince Grimes gives a quick Thanksgiving recap, and breaks down the best games from NFL Week 13.

Sports Seriously

After a 0-7 start to the 2025 NFL season, the New York Jets have won three of their last five games, most recently a 27-24 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at home.

The offense didn’t turn the ball over as veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor earned his first win as a starter for the Jets in 2025. New York is home again in Week 14 for a divisional matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

These two teams met in the first month of the season for a “Monday Night Football” contest that saw the Dolphins get their first win of the year. Miami held on to a two-score lead in the fourth quarter to get a 27-21 win. New York’s final points on the night came on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Justin Fields to Garrett Wilson.

Wilson’s touchdown the following week against Dallas remains his most recent score. New York’s leading receiver hasn’t been in the lineup since Week 10 against the Browns. He left that contest after re-aggravating a knee injury.

Will he be back in action for Week 14 against Miami? Here’s the latest on his status.

When will Garrett Wilson return?

New York placed Wilson on injured reserve (IR) following his injury in Week 10. He has to spend at least four weeks on IR per NFL rules and that means the earliest he could return is Week 15.

Wilson did not need surgery for his sprained knee and is expected to miss three to four weeks. That puts him right in line for a return in Week 15.

New York’s passing offense hasn’t performed well with Wilson out of the lineup. The team has surpassed 200 passing yards just once (204 against Baltimore in Week 12) and as a whole haven’t surpassed 300 total yards of offense since Wilson went down in Week 10.

New York heads on the road for three of its final four games in the regular season. Week 15 features a road matchup against Jacksonville and its stout run defense, so the Jets could use Wilson’s help to make hay in the passing game.

Garrett Wilson stats

Wilson was having a solid but unspectacular season before his injury. He hadn’t reached 100 yards in any of his seven starts this year but had less than 50 yards just once in that span.

Targets: 59Receptions: 36Receiving yards: 395Yards/reception: 11.0Touchdowns: 4

Wilson’s on pace for a career-low in yards per game (56.4) and in danger of failing to record a 1,000-yard season for the first time in his career. The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year had the best year of his career in 2024 and hasn’t come close to those heights in year one under offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.
