Former Pittsburgh Steelers CB Darius Slay is now a Buffalo Bill after being claimed off waivers, but new reports indicate that a reunion with the Philadelphia Eagles was closer than many realized.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles put in a claim to acquire Slay off waivers, but the Bills’ priority over them dashed any hopes of a return to Philly.

Signing with the Steelers on a one-year contract worth $10 million this offseason, Slay struggled in coverage throughout the 2025 season, eventually being benched less than a year after winning a Super Bowl with Philadelphia.

With Slay heading to Buffalo, the Steelers will move forward with Joey Porter Jr., James Pierre, and Asante Samuel Jr. as their top outside corner options, while Eagles fans are left wondering what could’ve been.
