Richard Sherman believed George Pickens did not live up to the billing against the Detroit Lions. The former NFL star was part of Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football coverage between the Lions and Dallas Cowboys, which turned into a high-scoring affair.
Detroit showed its mettle against Dallas, taking down the Cowboys 44-30 in front of a raucous home crowd.
That said, Pickens’ play left much to be desired, according to Sherman. The criticism toward Pickens came after the Cowboys were the beneficiary of a head-scratching call by the officials. “The big story here is George Pickens,” Sherman began.

“George Pickens throughout the game, especially late in the game, just looked uninterested in playing football. You know, and that’s what you can’t have.
“If you’re going to be a superstar, if you want to be the best receiver in the National Football League, you can’t ever be disengaged. It doesn’t matter if the game is going your way or not going your way. You can’t just disappear in these games or else you’re not going to have impact. And just right here, cruising, cruising routes.”
The former NFL star also noted that with CeeDee Lamb missing the rest of the game with a concussion, the Cowboys expected more from Pickens. However, that was not the case; the Lions’ defense honed in on the wideout’s apparent lack of focus.

“You’re the guy. You’re the guy,” Sherman continued. “CeeDee Lamb is not in this game. He’s out. And you get intercepted on your slant routes. And you can’t be the guy and half-ass it. And I’m sorry, that’s just, you can’t, it’s unacceptable.”
After the game, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer believed that the interceptions in the game, including the picked pass meant for Pickens, were not the cause of the loss. “Yeah, we lost first down tonight, I really felt that,” Schottenheimer said after the fact.
“We’ve put ourselves in long-yardage situations, we lost first down and I think on both sides of the ball. So when you’re calling the game, if you’re Dan [Campbell] and you’re 2nd-and-3, four, or whatever, you feel great.

“And when you’re on the other side of it, you’re 2nd-and-9, 2nd-and-10, it’s a little bit more difficult. And the play sheet seems to shrink.”
Sherman also stated that the Cowboys will have to think long and hard about whether they want to have Pickens as part of their future moving forward, especially given his lack of mental fortitude.
“And if you’re a Dallas Cowboys and you’re looking at him and you’re looking to pay him big-time receiver money, $40 million, you’ve got to look at this tape and say, ‘Hey, is this a guy we can trust paying $40 million to show up or go into some circumstance?’ I don’t know,” the 37-year-old concluded.
