The Tennessee Titans‘ defense needs all the help it can get. Could that help be coming in the form of high-paid cornerback L’Jarius Sneed or second-round pick edge defender Oluwafemi Oladejo?

The Titans (1-11) visit the Cleveland Browns (3-9) at Huntington Bank Field on Dec. 7 (noon CT, FOX). Titans interim coach Mike McCoy ruled center Lloyd Cushenberry III and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis out for the game. Armour-Davis’ injury exacerbates the depth issues on a defense that’s already playing without Sneed and Oladejo, as well as key contributors that were traded away or released midseason including cornerbacks Roger McCreary and Jarvis Brownlee Jr., safety Quandre Diggs and edge defender Dre’Mont Jones.

Oladejo hasn’t played since Week 6 against Las Vegas with a leg injury. Sneed’s been out since Week 7 with a quad injury. For Oladejo, the possibility of a return seems promising. He was spotted working on a separate practice field with Titans director of sports medicine Matt Gregg on Dec. 3, repping through some movement drills during the media viewing period of practice, a first since his injury.

McCoy was vague when speaking about Oladejo’s progress and elected not to offer any specifics about Oladejo’s return timeline or whether the expectation is for Oladejo to return this season despite multiple questions on the topic.

“He’s taking it one day at a time,” McCoy said. “With an injury like he has, there’s the good days and the bad days. There are days when he feels really good and he pushes it and Matt and the crew push him really hard, and then he comes back sore the next day. So it’s just the process he’s going through. I know he’s trying to do everything he can to get back out here.”

As for Sneed, McCoy offered less concrete discussion about a return timeline and talked more about Sneed’s value to the team even while he’s injured.

“He’s here every day,” McCoy said. “He’s in a lot of the meetings. I love having him around. He’s a great voice and a leader to help the younger guys, obviously with the guys that are in there. He’s played a lot of ball. It’s great to have him in here. When he first went down, he said ‘I want to be around.’ We told him ‘We want you here. We want you to be in the building helping these guys.’ He’s done a great job.”

Sneed has not been spotted on the practice field since his injury, but he is in the locker room with his teammates at least once a week.

Without Oladejo, the Titans’ edge rusher room consists primarily of Arden Key, Jihad Ward and Jaylen Harrell. The cornerback situation is a little more dire. Darrell Baker Jr., Marcus Harris, Kaiir Elam and Micah Robinson are the options on the active roster with Armour-Davis’ injury.
