BYU head coach Kalani Sitake appeared to be on his way to Penn State early in the week, but the No. 11 Cougars were able to sign him to a contract extension before they get set to face No. 4 Texas Tech in the Big 12 championship on Saturday.
Before news broke that Sitake was staying in Provo, Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire signed a contract extension to stay in Lubbock.

With Sitake off the board, PSU shifted its focus to another program in the Big 12, nabbing Matt Campbell for Iowa State on Friday.
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Cyclones hired Jimmy Rogers to replace Campbell. He won a national championship at South Dakota State as a head coach in 2023.
“Sources: Jimmy Rogers is set to become the next coach at Iowa State,” Thamel posted on X. “He’s the first-year head coach at Washington State and won a national title at South Dakota State in 2023 as the head coach there.”
Thamel noted that Rogers is a natural fit for ISU.
“Rogers was the defensive coordinator on South Dakota State’s national title in 2022 and the head coach for the title in 2023,” Thamel posted. “He’s familiar with Iowa State’s footprint and brings AD Jamie Pollard a championship pedigree.”
Washington State finished the season 6-6. Rogers, 38, went 27-3 during his two seasons with SDSU.
Rogers played as a linebacker for South Dakota State. He began his coaching career with the Jackrabbits as a graduate assistant in 2010. He spent 2012 with Florida Atlantic as a graduate assistant before returning to SDSU as a linebackers coach in 2013.Â
ISU will be somewhat unfamiliar territory for Rogers. He has no experience as a coach at the Power 4 level.
