Eagles edge rusher Jaelan Phillips (concussion) was back on the practice field Friday as the Eagles prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers in Southern California on Monday night.
Phillips, 26, began the week listed as limited with that concussion so it’s a good sign that he got through that first day of practice. He was limited again on Friday but appears on track to play against the Chargers on Monday night.
Having Phillips for this game is big because the Chargers have given up a ton of pressure this season after losing both of their starting tackles. Not only that but Justin Herbert is expected to play this game after having surgery on his non-throwing hand earlier this week. Herbert has been pressured more than any other quarterback in the NFL this season.
Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson was not at practice because he got a rest day. His absence was not injury-related. Brett Toth filled in at left guard.
Here’s the full injury report from Friday:
Did not practice: DT Jalen Carter (shoulders), G Landon Dickerson (rest), T Lane Johnson (foot)
Limited: LB Zack Baun (hand), WR Jahan Dotson (toe), OLB Jaelan Phillips (concussion)
Full: S Marcus Epps (shoulder), WR Xavier Gipson (shoulder), T Myles Hinton (back)
DT Jalen Carter (shoulders) and RT Lane Johnson (foot) both missed practice again on Friday. Carter has already been ruled out this week after having a procedure Monday on both of his shoulders. Carter is considered week-to-week. Johnson suffered a Lisfranc sprain against the Lions and has missed the last two games. Fred Johnson is expected to make his third straight start.
In addition to Phillips, the other three Eagles who began the week listed as limited — LB Zack Baun (hand), WR Jahan Dotson (toe), WR Xavier Gipson (shoulder) — were practicing again on Friday. Gipson missed last week with that injury he suffered against the Cowboys but was upgraded to a full participant on Friday. Britain Covey was promoted to the 53-man roster to return punts in his place.
Both players who were full to start the week — S Marcus Epps (shoulder), T Myles Hinton (back) — were back on the field Friday. Both Epps and Hinton have been on IR and are practicing after the team opened their respective practice windows.
If Epps looks good during this week of practice, there’s a good chance he’ll be a starting safety next to Reed Blankenship on Monday night. Sydney Brown got a start last week in place of rookie Drew Mukuba, who is on IR with an ankle fracture, and had some ups and downs. There’s a chance Epps could stabilize the position.
