The Kansas City Chiefs are on the brink of missing the playoffs.
Fresh off a Super Bowl appearance, it looks like the 2025 NFL season will be a historic one for the Chiefs. This is because they won’t be making the NFL playoffs. After years of dominating the AFC West with ease, the Chiefs now sit third with a 6-7 record going into Week 15.
The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers are fighting for the top spot in the AFC West. Following their loss to the Houston Texans, the Chiefs will look to compete for a wild card spot and deliver big upsets if they want to go back to the Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs Won’t Make the NFL Playoffs
Many would think that if the Chiefs won’t make it to the playoffs, it must be because Patrick Mahomes has been terrible, but that hasn’t been the case. Mahomes has 22 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. The main problem with the Chiefs has been their rushing offense, because it has been consistently bad.
Andy Reid and the Chiefs never prioritize having a reliable rushing game, and in other seasons, it didn’t matter because they had one of the best offenses and a very consistent defense. But this year, everything has fallen apart. The Chiefs can’t run the ball, Travis Kelce can’t catch a pass, and the defense isn’t fooling anybody.
The Chiefs will face the Chargers in a crucial Week 15 game, then they play the Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, and the Las Vegas Raiders. They have two winnable games and two very difficult ones when they face the Chargers and Broncos. There’s zero room for error for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Besides needing to end the year perfectly, the Chiefs’ Super Bowl expectations also depend on the Colts, Texans, and Chargers falling in the NFL standings. I believe this will be the first since 2014 we don’t see the Chiefs in the playoffs.
