Good morning ☕
The stink of that performance still hasn’t worn off and I had the privilege of having to sift through that film last night.
It doesn’t get any better on second viewing, in fact it got a lot worse. Defensively it seemed as though every single player had snaps of low effort and poor positioning. Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams in particular had very disappointing performances and that’s on the back of the linebacking duo playing a lot better recently.
We’re going to have a look through some of the stats according to PFF, but I’ve also gone back and clipped together all of Brady Cook’s passing attempts so you can judge his performance for yourself.
NEWS & NOTES
Aaron Glenn was asked about the QB situation and he stated “We have to see what guys are healthy enough to go out there and give us a chance to win.” and “I’m going to play the guy that I think give us the best chance to win.” – My feeling is that if Taylor is healthy then it’s him, if Taylor is out and Fields is healthy, it’s him…the only way Cook plays is if they’re both missing. That’s the feeling I got from the presser.
According to the NYPD, they now have a “person of interest” in custody in the Kris Boyd shooting. (ESPN)
The Rams trading up to #1 to take Fernando Mendoza? The Jets taking Makai Lemon with the 7th overall pick: “Even if Jordyn Tyson were still on the board, if the Jets were the team taking the first wide receiver in this draft, I bet it would be Lemon. What Lemon may lack in overall size and straight-line athleticism, he more than makes up for with quickness, football IQ and competitiveness in every area — contested catches, blocking, yards after the catch and more. He has the mentality of a receiver Aaron Glenn would pound the table for to complement Garrett Wilson.” (PFF)
A reminder that Garrett Wilson is eligible to come off IR this week. Glenn was asked about it and he said it would be a medical decision. I know there is an argument that because we’re 3-10, what’s the point. But for me I want players who want to be out there, but only if they’re 100% healthy. If there is any doubt he sits, but seeing what this receiving unit looks like with Garrett is probably not a bad idea for off-season planning and evaluation.
“You just can’t trust Tyrod Taylor to start any string of games. If you need him for a quarter. If you need him for a half. If you need him to finish out one particular game or spot start, absolutely that’s fine. But the durability questions that have followed him throughout his career, they haven’t gotten better here in his 15th year.” (Connor Hughes)
“I feel like he did good. I feel like Brady Cook is special. Like I told him after the game, because me [and] Mitch [Adonai Mitchell] we was just talking about it, and we were like bro, he got it — he is special. We all have games where it’s going to make or break us, and how he came back every time to the huddle, and like everybody was just bought in what he was doing, like he’s special, he’s got it. Like when people talk about that it factor, he one of them guys that got it. It’s just development. It’s just giving him time, he was thrown in there like in the fire, and you gotta think like during the week you don’t get to take many live reps with the ones, so you got different receivers that you throwing to, and all that stuff plays a factor. I think mentally he showed me that he got it,” – Pretty high praise from Isaiah Williams (Official Website)
“Since Rodgers’ contract was structured with multiple option bonuses, the total dead money would have increased from $49 million to $63 million by bringing him back for another year. The Jets will be getting a $7 million cap credit in 2026 from the $7 million of 2025 proration relating to the $35 million option bonus for a 2029 contract year that wasn’t picked up due to Rodgers being released. The cap credit is reducing the 2026 dead money from $35 million to $28 million,” – (Joel Corry) I kept forgetting to add this last week.
Like last week I’m going to be a little more selective with the stats that I share from PFF. The grading system is all over the place at the moment so let’s look at a few of the advanced metrics that I like to pay attention to.
