ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions have 11 players in the top 10 at their position in Pro Bowl voting with four games left in the regular season.
Linebacker Jack Campbell is the only one of those 11 to lead his position in voting. Campbell, who has taken his play to an elite level this season, leads the way among inside linebackers. Jahmyr Gibbs is the only Lions player to crack the overall top 10, getting 50,721 votes to rank him sixth as of Dec. 8.
Campbell has 129 tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles and nine tackles for loss. He is two tackles away from setting a new career-best, and already has new highs in sacks, tackles for loss, forced fumbles and quarterback hits.
Last week, the third-year pro joined team icon Chris Spielman (1989) as the only Lions linebackers ever to have 110 tackles and five sacks in a single season.
Gibbs has 1,062 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, with 58 catches for 474 yards and three scores through 13 games. He has four games to top last year’s season-leading mark of 16 rushing touchdowns. Gibbs ranks in the top 10 of voting overall, but slots third among running backs behind Christian McCaffrey (49ers) and Jonathan Taylor (Colts).
Not a bad draft class featuring those two at the top, not to mention that Brian Branch and Sam LaPorta, while out with serious injuries, also cracked the top 10 of voting at their positions.
See below for a roundup of where the other Lions players rank among their position groups:
Graham Glasgow — seventh among centersAidan Hutchinson — third among defensive endsKerby Joseph — third among free safetiesJack Fox — second among puntersJared Goff — 10th among quarterbacksAmon-Ra St. Brown — fifth among wide receiversPenei Sewell — third among offensive tacklesBrian Branch — third among strong safetiesSam LaPorta — 10th among tight ends
Of note, Branch and LaPorta are out with injuries, so it’s unlikely they hang onto those spots. Branch is done for the year and LaPorta isn’t expected back. But at the same time, Joseph has missed seven straight games and still ranks in the top three at his position. He has three interceptions through his six games played, as he continues to try and return for the playoff push.
Hutchinson leads all defensive players with 80 created pressures. He has 8.5 sacks, 25 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles and two pass breakups. Fox has dropped 24 punts inside the 20-yard line without committing a single touchback across 45 attempts.
St. Brown ranks sixth in receptions (81), fifth in yards (976) and second in touchdown catches (nine). The 26-year-old is on track for his fourth straight season with at least 1,000 yards, and third-straight with double-digit touchdowns.
Sewell is the top-ranked offensive tackle in the league by a wide margin, per Pro Football Focus. He’s the only offensive tackle with a 90-plus overall grade, and he sits at 96.0 with four games left.
The Lions had six players participate in the reinvented Pro Bowl last season, including Branch, Fox, Gibbs, Goff, Taylor Decker and retired center Frank Ragnow. Decker replaced Sewell, and Giants receiver Malik Nabers replaced St. Brown after he was named to the official roster last year.
Players compete in individual events and in a flag football game to cap the festivities. Fan voting for the Pro Bowl Games continues through Dec. 15. This year’s event will take place during Super Bowl week in San Francisco, another change to track.
