The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will enter Week 15 against the Atlanta Falcons knowing that the NFC South tide has turned in recent weeks.

Having lost four of their last five games, the Buccaneers aren’t in the best of form, and now have the Carolina Panthers breathing down their necks for the NFC South title.

Both are at 7-6, and are yet to play each other this season, so the division is still very much in doubt as we enter the final month of the season.

And for Baker Mayfield, he and his team are using an old mantra ahead of their playoff push.

“I mean, we’re still in control of our own destiny, and that’s just the fact,” Mayfield said. “We’re tied for the division. We would love to be ahead and in a different spot, but we are where we are, and we control our own destiny. Win one game at a time and see what happens.”

Buccaneers’ playoff hopes in the balance

Mayfield is right, the Buccaneers do control their own destiny. Win out, and the division is theirs.

But the Falcons won’t be pushovers, and the two games against the Panthers will be for all the marbles, and there is a tricky road trip to face the Miami Dolphins thrown in there, too.

So, the path forward for Baker and Co. isn’t as straightforward as many think, but the team taking care of business over the final month is all that Mayfield wants, starting with the Falcons, who will be hellbent on playing spoiler for Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes.
