Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is no longer the oldest quarterback in the entire league. With the Indianapolis Colts inking 44-year-old Phillip Rivers to a deal to join their practice squad, the 42-year-old Rodgers is now the second-oldest quarterback in the NFL.
Rodgers has embraced the title of being the NFL’s elder statesman in his later years, acknowledging that despite his age, he believes he could hold off his decline. That did not fully happen, as Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in 2023 with the Jets and has not played like his four-time MVP self over the lsat four seasons.
Even still, he has played well, meaning Rivers could do the same. Of course, Rivers has showcased himself well over his career and was even a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.
He has not played in the NFL since 2020 when he was with the Colts, making this comeback attempt one of the longer attempts at a quarterback coming out of retirement. Yet, it was needed for the Colts with Anthony Richardson still trying to return from an orbital fracture and Daniel Jones out for the season with a torn Achilles.
Rodgers, meanwhile, turned up the heat against the Baltimore Ravens and played perhaps his best game of football this season.
