The Philadelphia Eagles went into Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, looking for a way to get back to their winning ways. Unfortunately, costly mistakes hurt the visitors, despite their chances to win the game in overtime.

Many put Jalen Hurts under the spotlight after a highly unusual performance. The star quarterback finished with four interceptions and a fumble on a play where he’d initially recovered the Chargers’ fumble. That said, the Eagles quarterback didn’t hesitate to assign blame for the “Monday Night Football” disaster.

“I didn’t play well enough—too many turnovers. Lots of opportunities, especially when we get on the other side of the 50, and I wasn’t able to get us in the box,” he said, shouldering much of the blame himself.

He referred to the team’s final attempt to get a touchdown on a pass to the corner near the goal line as “a play we made a million times.”

“Winning is a point of pride for me. That’s why I play the game. I gotta find ways to lead our team to victories. It’s not something that’s foreign to us; we’re just not able to do it at the moment. It starts with me and how I lead,” Hurts told reporters at the postgame press conference.

“For me, we lost the game, and I didn’t play well enough to win the game,” the Eagles star told the media, also adding, “We gotta go out there and put it together.”

Hurts finished with 240 yards passing in the 22-19 loss. The Chargers also sacked the Eagles QB once, but his four interceptions stood out. Before Monday’s outing, he had only thrown two interceptions all season.

He credited Los Angeles for a “disruptive” defense and said he can learn from his mistakes after what occurred on the field.

Hurts also indicated he needs to be a better leader and that there are “no excuses.” He mentioned seeing how he responds to this “test” to find “what level of resolve and resilience” he has to move forward and “figure things out.”

The loss to the Chargers dropped the Eagles to 8-5. They still hold the No. 3 spot in the projected NFL Playoff picture and seem likely to hold onto the AFC East division lead. However, the Cowboys are still 6-6-1, in second place, and chasing a playoff spot.

However, Philadelphia draws a favorable matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, albeit after a short break from Monday’s loss. Hurts will get his chance to show he’s a better leader on Sunday afternoon, but he’ll also need to find ways to win against the top-tier teams in the NFC for the NFL Playoffs.
