A former Carolina Panthers pass rusher has moved on from the game of football.
Marquis Haynes Sr., who played outside linebacker for the team from 2018 to 2024, announced his retirement on Wednesday. He thanked the organization, for whom he spent all but four days of his seven-year pro career with, as part of his announcement via Twitter/X . . .
The Panthers selected Haynes, a two-time second-team All-SEC member from the University of Mississippi, in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft. He went on to appear in 73 games for Carolina through the 2024 campaign—totaling 104 combined tackles, 14.0 sacks, 27 quarterback hits, four fumble recoveries and six passes defensed.
His lone stop outside of Carolina came with the Arizona Cardinals, in the summer of 2024. He’d be waived from the team three days later and landed back with the Panthers that October.
Haynes’ final down was recorded in last year’s 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders. He notched four tackles over 34 defensive snaps in the Week 7 defeat.
