2025 has been nothing short of a disappointing year for the Baltimore Ravens. A team that once had Super Bowl aspirations has continuously lowered the bar as the season has progressed.

At the beginning of the season, the Ravens thought they were good enough to make the Super Bowl; then they thought they could at least win the division. Now the team is just trying to scrape its way into the playoffs.

After losing to division rivals the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers in back-to-back weeks, the Ravens have dug themselves quite a hole in the AFC North. Also, at 6-7, the hopes of making the playoffs as a wild-card team are slim. The Ravens’ playoff hopes are dwindling, and ESPN Analytics has the data to prove it.

30% Chance

The Ravens knew, going into their game against the Steelers, that a lot was on the line for the team. Jamison Hensley of ESPN wrote about the game’s magnitude.

“The Ravens’ playoff chances went from 60% before the game to 30% after it, according to ESPN Analytics,” Hensley wrote.

However, all hope is not lost for Baltimore. If the Ravens win their last four games against the Bengals, Patriots, Packers, and the Steelers, they will win the AFC North. The biggest problem with this scenario is that the only team below .500 that they play is the Bengals, who just beat them in Baltimore. According to ESPN Analytics, the Ravens have a 7% chance of winning out.

The Ravens do have a winning DNA at their core, though, with players like two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Kyle Hamilton, and head coach John Harbaugh, whose seat is becoming increasingly hot as the Ravens sink.

Harbaugh’s Job Security

Would the Ravens fire their head coach with the most wins in franchise history after missing the playoffs one time? It is not out of the realm of possibility.

Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports wrote about Harbaugh and other coaches potentially on the hot seat in his December 9 article. He broke down why the Ravens’ move on from Harbaugh may not be as ridiculous as it seems on the surface, comparing Harbaugh to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

“Like Tomlin, Harbaugh’s recent playoff failures are becoming a part of his story. The last time the Ravens won multiple playoff games in a season was 2012. Since 2014, Harbaugh’s playoff record is 3-6,” Schwab wrote. “He hasn’t made a Super Bowl in that span despite having a two-time NFL MVP at quarterback. Harbaugh has had an unquestionably great run, but is it getting stale in his 18th season? That has been asked of Tomlin often, and it’s only fair to ask it of Harbaugh too.”

Schwab believes that interesting discussions on Harbaugh’s future could commence if he falls short of winning the division in a year where the rest of the division is vulnerable.

“If the Ravens miss the playoffs despite an easy path to a division title, will the franchise be ready to make a drastic move after being mostly successful with Harbaugh over nearly two decades? He has a 178-111 career record and a Super Bowl win. It will be hard to replace him. But all good things come to an end,” Schwab wrote.

Time is running out for the Ravens to turn things around this year, and time could also be running out of the John Harbaugh Era in Baltimore.
