After being fired by Penn State in the middle of the 2025 season, James Franklin has been on a mission to return to the top of the college football world.

Following his signing with Virginia Tech a few weeks ago, he has been hard at work to make sure that the Hokies can become a force in the ACC for years to come. That has meant flipping some recruits from his former team, and now he’s taken it one step further.

He has taken a Penn State staple in a beloved strength and conditioning coach known for his prominent mustache.

Chuck Losey is reported to be joining James Franlin’s new staff at Virginia Tech after being with the Nittany Lions for a decade, according to multiple reports.

He has been praised for the work that he has done at Penn State with now-NFL stars like Micah Parsons of the Green Bay Packers and Jayson Oweh of the Los Angeles Chargers.

This move is another domino in Franklin’s plan to reshape the Hokies following years of mediocrity, with their last 10-win regular season coming back in 2011.

And with the transfer portal set to be open in a little less than a month’s time, Franklin, Losey, and the rest of the staff at Blacksburg will be ready to get to work to turn Virginia Tech into a viable College Football Playoff contender in 2026.
