Christmas Coal from Kingsford Original Charcoal could be a gag gift, an item for a white-elephant exchange or something you just have to have.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, Kingsford, the folks who have been bringing grillers and barbecue fans charcoal for more than 100 years, launched a bag of what it’s calling “Christmas Coal” for the holiday season.

It’s actually a 4-pound bag of Kingsford Original Charcoal wrapped in festive holiday packaging. The name is inspired by a warning delivered by parents to generations of unruly children: Behave or Santa will leave a lump of coal in your stocking.

The holiday charcoal isn’t being sold at Michigan retailers, but there’s still a chance state residents can land some. Kingsford has teamed with former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, named, Kingsford’s King of the Grill in 2024, for a contest.

Fans can enter the contest to win a free bag on Instagram. Just go to Kingsford x Jason Kelce’s Instagram collab post, then follow @Kingsford and like, and comment on the post. Only 75 winners will be selected at random. You can enter up until 11:59 p.m. on Monday Dec. 15. Full terms and conditions are also available on the post.

“Coal in a stocking is notorious for being the unwanted gift every holiday season,” said Mitchell O’Furey, head of marketing at Kingsford. “This year, Kingsford is getting people excited about giving and receiving coal under the tree. Charcoal grilling is all about spending time with the people you care about over delicious food, and Christmas Coal celebrates the grillers who make that possible,” O’Furey said in a news release.
