Tennessee football linebacker Arion Carter has declared for the NFL draft. The three-year contributor has wrapped up his second season as a starter for the Vols and has declared following his junior season. In his released statement, he did not indicate whether he will be opting out of the Music City Bowl or not. Most players do choose to skip bowl games when declaring, though.

Carter was forced to miss some time this season due to turf toe, but still racked up 76 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 10 games. He was the starting weakside linebacker for the team when healthy, as well.

Carter was also a key piece of Tennessee’s defense that was among the best in the country in 2024. His efforts, which included 68 tackles and a crucial interception of DJ Lagway vs. Florida, helped the team reach the playoffs.

As a freshman in 2023, Carter pushed his way into playing time but had his season cut short due to injury. He was a four-star recruit out of Smyra, Tennessee, and considered the No. 183 recruit in the country by 247.

More From RTI: What Alex Golesh Said About the Hiring of Former Tennessee DC Tim Banks at Auburn

“Tennessee has truly become home for me, and that’s what has made this decision so difficult. I want to start by thanking my coaches for believing in me, pushing me, and holding me to the highest standard every single day. Thank you to the trainers, strength coaches, academic team & support staff that made sure I was completely taken care of on and off the field. I can’t express enough gratitude for the role all of you played in my academic & athletic journey. Your willingness to challenge and push me beyond my limits has prepared me for every encounter that lies ahead.

“To my teammates – my brothers – thank you for the battles we went through together, the memories we made and the bonds we built. I’ll carry that with me forever. You made this experience special in ways I can’t even put into words.

“To the University of Tennessee & the Greatest fan base in the country, thank you for the opportunity to be a Vol! The college experience, game day atmosphere and relationships developed will last a lifetime. Playing for the Power T meant everything to me.

“So with a lot of prayer and conversations with my family & those closest to me, I’ve decided to declare for the NFL Draft.
