The Eagles on Saturday afternoon elevated safety Andre’ Sam from the practice squad for their game against the Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
This is the third and final elevation for Sam. If the Eagles want him up on game days after this weekend, they’ll need to find a spot for Sam on the 53-man roster.
Sam, 26, has been elevated each of the last two weeks since rookie Drew Mukuba landed on IR with a fractured ankle. While Sam hasn’t played any snaps on defense, he has played 19 on special teams. Fourteen of those special teams snaps came on Monday night against the Chargers.
Expect Marcus Epps to get his second straight start at safety next to Reed Blankenship, while Sydney Brown and Sam will serve as the backups against the Raiders.
Sam was actually fined $4,741 for unnecessary roughness (use of the helmet) in overtime against the Chargers. Cameron Latu was fined $4,666 for unnecessary roughness (use of the helmet) in the first quarter. Those are the Eagles’ only two fines from Week 14.
