As you’re reading this, the time approaches. Hours separate us from the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 14th game of the season. This is a Week 15 clash featuring two opponents who don’t play very often, but they are very familiar with one another.

Philadelphia has battled the Las Vegas Raiders 14 times in five different cities: Oakland, Philadelphia, New Orleans (Super Bowl XV), Los Angeles (1986), and Las Vegas.

At times, they have been mirror images of one another. Often, one side was the more dominant squad. In the coming game, there are two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum, yet they share similarities.

Historically, they’ve shared players. Eric Allen, Nnamdi Asomugha, DeSean Jackson, Charlie Garner, and Jon Ritchie come to mind. So do guys who are on their current rosters: Kenny Pickett, Jakorian Bennett, Marcus Epps, Tristin McCollum, Albert Okwuegbunam, Thomas Booker, and Terrell Edmunds.

The Eagles and Raiders also share one potentially fatal flaw.

The Eagles and Raiders share something else. Unfortunately, this is a label they’d like to shed. They’re both among the more challenged NFL teams in terms of ‘pass block win rate’.

That’s a stat that measures how often teams sustain blocks for 2.5 seconds. According to ESPN Research, the Eagles’ pass-block win rate is 61%. The raiders are worse at 60%. That stacks them 18th and 21st among all 32 teams, respectively.

Two of the main goals for every team in every NFL game are to protect their quarterback and to harass the other team’s quarterback. The team that does the better job of both will increase its chances of winning this one.

Philadelphia’s offensive line is banged up. That includes an ankle injury to Fred Johnson that he will attempt to play through, and here comes Maxx Crosby.

The Raiders star is one of the best at his position in the business. He has already tallied nine sacks, 25 tackles for loss, and 18 additional quarterback hits this season.
