Panthers vs. Saints: The matchup
The Panthers (7-6) sit alone atop the NFC South as kickoff approaches after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers slipped to a 29-28 loss to the Atlanta Falcons to fall to 7-7 overall. Carolina has an opportunity as a 2.5-point road favorite to cash in for a one-game advantage, which could be big with two Panthers vs. Bucs matchups over the final three weeks of the regular season.
The Saints are a big reason the Bucs have fallen back to the pack in the NFC South, playing a spoiler role to perfection in Week 14 by beating the Bucs in Tampa Bay (24-20). The play of rookie quarterback Tyler Shough will be a central storyline if the Saints hope to repeat that underdog victory; Shough was far from perfect through the air against the Bucs, but carried seven times for 55 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground.
