The Eagles needed that.

After losing three straight games, they dominated the two-win Raiders on Sunday afternoon at the Linc in all three phases.

They ended up pulling their starters in the fourth quarter and won 31-0 to improve to 9-5 on the season with three games left.

Let’s get to the position grades:

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts: 12/15, 175 yards, 3 TDs, 154.9 rating; 7 rushes, 39 yards

After some silly talk this week about possibly benching Jalen Hurts, we got to see his backup play anyway after the Eagles built up a 31-0 lead early in the fourth quarter. After Hurts hit A.J. Brown on a 27-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, he let out a ton o emotion and pumped his fists. I think he needed this game. After a rough stretch, Hurts responded in a big way and had one of his better performances of the season. Early in this game, Hurts had one pass behind Saquon Barkley and that was really his only miss of the game. He also got involved in the QB run game, which seemed to help the offense move better up and down the field.

Grade: A

Running back

Saquon Barkley: 22 carries, 78 yards, 1 TD

Because the Raiders load the box so much and because the Eagles built up a lead, it wasn’t always easy to run the ball on Sunday. But the Eagles kept with it and were able to be efficient and crush the Raiders in time of possession and play keep away. In addition to Barkley’s 78 yards, Tank Bigsby finished with 57 on 17 with a long of 13. Barkley averaged just 3.5 yards per carry and Bigbsy just 3.4 but the Raiders load the box more than any team in the NFL and they did it again on Sunday. The Eagles got a lead and ran the ball a ton and finished with 183 rushing yards. The won the TOP battle: 39:25-20:35.

Grade: A-

Receiver

DeVonta Smith: 2 catches on 2 targets, 50 yards

The Eagles built a lead and didn’t have to throw the ball a ton on Sunday. Jalen Hurts attempted just 15 passes in the blowout win but both DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown made their plays. Smith caught a 44-yarder down the left sideline and converted on a 3rd-and-6 on the first drive. Brown drew a DPI on that first drive and then caught a 27-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter before the backups took over. Darius Cooper also added 2 for 29 and has been playing well recently.

Grade: A-

Tight end

Dallas Goedert: 6 catches on 7 targets, 70 yards, 2 TDs

Coming into this game, the Raiders had actually done a really good job against opposing tight ends. They were ranked third in the NFL in receiving yards against tight ends and the biggest TE performance against them came in Week 1 when Hunter Henry had 66 yards. Goedert made a bunch of big plays and could have had three touchdowns had he not dropped a pass in the end zone. The Eagles continue to ask Grant Calcaterra to run block and it doesn’t always go very well.

Grade: A

Offensive line

The Eagles might get Lane Johnson back next week but their offensive line has settled down over the last month. Jalen Hurts was sacked just one time on Sunday as the line continues to hold up in pass protection. Like we mentioned, the run game didn’t have a high average but everyone in the stadium knew they were running and they were still able to grind out 183 yards on the ground.

Grade: A

Defensive line

Brandon Graham: 2 sacks, 1 TFL

The Eagles sacked Kenny Pickett four times but hit him a bunch more and really made his life miserable. Brandon Graham became the oldest Eagles player ever to have a sack and he ended up with a couple while playing defensive tackle for the Eagles. Nolan Smith had a sack, Moro Ojomo had a sack, Jalyx Hunt had a few QB hits, Jaelan Phillips had a couple batted passes. And The Eagles gave up just 46 rushing yards. Ashton Jeanty ended up with just 9 carries for 35 yards and a long of 11. They clearly won up front and did it without Jalen Carter, who missed his second straight game with shoulder injuries.

Grade: A+

Linebacker

Nakobe Dean: 8 tackles, 2 TFLs

The addition of Nakobe Dean to the Eagles’ defense has completely transformed that unit. He had a couple big tackles for loss in this game and his “choo-choo” celebration is starting to take over with his teammates. Dean had a couple TFLs in this game, including one of Brock Bowers. Zack Baun had his second interception of the season when he stepped in front of Bowers to undercut a Kenny Pickett throw.

Grade: A+

Secondary

Adoree’ Jackson: 3 tackles, 1 PBU

Kenny Pickett completed just 60% of his passes for 64 yards and a passer rating of 47.9. Brock Bowers was their leading receiver with 28 yards. Their receivers combined for 4 caches for 27 yards. Quinyon Mitchell, Adoree’ Jackson and Cooper DeJean provided suffocating coverage all night. Reed Blankenship and Marcus Epps controlled the back end of the secondary.

Grade: A+

Special teams

Britain Covey: 3 punt returns, 22 yards

It wasn’t a spectacular special teams performance but it was a good one. Jake Elliott made his only FG attempt and all four of his PATs. Elliott also had a touchback to the 20 after dropping it in the landing zone before going into the end zone. Covey’s numbers weren’t great but he got positive yardage after the bounce. Sometimes a minimal gain ends up being the difference in 20ish yards of field position. Braden Mann had just one punt and it went 43 yards into the wind.

Coaching

Record: 9-5

The Eagles’ offense stuck with the run on a Sunday afternoon with windy conditions. They were able to grind it out on the ground despite the Raiders’ loading the box and Kevin Patullo seemed to find a rhythm as a play caller. This was a more cohesive approach as the Eagles leaned on under-center and tempo and showed some 21-personnel looks. They also broke out some of those fancy shovels to Dallas Goedert in the tight red zone. On defense, it would have been easy to let their foot off the gas and they didn’t. This also looked like a more disciplined team so Nick Sirianni deserves credit.
