A 56-yard field goal from Jason Myers with 18 seconds left propelled the Seattle Seahawks past Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts 18-16 on Sunday. The game-winner was Myers’ sixth field goal of the game, setting a new Seahawks single-game record and keeping Seattle in the mix in a tight NFC West race.

The Seahawks were averaging 29.8 points per game entering Sunday at Lumen Field, but had just 80 total yards in the first half. That included three three-and-outs on the first five drives. The offense consisted of two Myers field goals through the first 30 minutes.

The Colts defense generated five tackles for loss and five quarterback hits on quarterback Sam Darnold, and the Seahawks were just 2-of-13 on third down.

It wasn’t much different in the second half, as Seattle continued to settle for field goals. A fourth Myers field goal made it 13-12 Colts early in the fourth quarter.

But the Seahawks defense shut out Rivers and the Colts after halftime, giving the offense a chance to rally for the win. An 11-play, 82-yard drive spanning 5 minutes, 42 seconds culminated in a 30-yard Myers field goal to put Seattle in front 15-13.

After a 60-yard field goal from Blake Grupe gave the Colts a 16-15 lead with 47 seconds remaining, Darnold led Seattle into field goal range for the win. Seattle’s signal caller finished 22-for-36 passing for 271 yards. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught seven passes for 113 yards.

The Seahawks improved to 11-3, matching the Los Angeles Rams’ record after they beat the Detroit Lions in the afternoon window. Indianapolis has now lost four straight games. At 8-6, its playoff hopes are hanging on by a thread.

Seahawks barely sneak by Colts

Well, that was closer than it perhaps should have been. Seattle barely beat a struggling Colts team that had to call Rivers out of retirement to fill in at quarterback. But the win-loss column doesn’t come with an asterisk. All that matters to Seattle, at least for now, is that it says the team has 11 wins, the most since the 2020 season when the team went 12-4 and won the NFC West. The Seahawks still control their fate in the division with the Rams coming to town on Thursday. Seattle has a saying that “it doesn’t have to be close.” Well, sometimes it is. — Michael-Shawn Dugar, Seahawks beat writer

Myers saves Seahawks

Seattle’s defense played below its standard, but holding an opponent to 16 points was enough to get the job done. The offense, on the other hand, was held out of the end zone against a banged-up Colts defense. Myers deserves more than a game ball after this one. Perhaps a temporary statue erected outside Lumen Field in his honor. The Seahawks leaned on his right leg all game, including the 56-yard kick to win it. That was a very clutch performance by one of the leaders of Seattle’s special teams unit. — Dugar
