Packers running back Josh Jacobs talks about injuries in loss to Broncos
While dealing with a knee injury of his own, Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs said it was tough to see players exit the game.
Christian Watson has suffered a chest injury that sent him to the hospital during the third quarter of the Green Bay Packers’ 34-26 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Watson was injured while attempting to make a diving catch for a deep ball that was intercepted by Broncos‘ All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Both players went to the ground on the play.
The Packers‘ wide receiver was tended to by several members of the Packers’ medical team and head coach Matt LaFleur came on the field. Watson then went to the locker room and was later ruled out.
Watson missed the first six games of the season as he recovered from a torn ACL he suffered in the final game of the 2024 season on Jan. 5, 2025.
The fourth-year receiver, who has battled many injuries in his career, firmly established himself as the No. 1 option for quarterback Jordan Love in recent weeks as his speed and size puts him above the rest.
He had five touchdown receptions in the last four games heading into the contest at Denver.
Christian Watson injury update
Watson was getting X-rays in the locker room for the chest injury, CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson reported.
The Packers initially said Watson was questionable to return before ruling him out.
Watson was later taken to the hospital to be further checked out but he was flying back with the team, according to Journal Sentinel reporter Tom Silverstein.
Christian Watson injury
Watson suffered the injury on the first play of the Packers’ second offensive drive of the second half. They held a 23-14 lead after their defense forced a three and out on the Broncos.
Love was looking for a big shot with his most explosive player. But Surtain cut in front of Watson and picked off the pass at the Denver 29-yard line. Watson sustained the injury on the fall.
He immediately grabbed his shoulder and stayed down.
Christian Watson stats
Watson had three catches for 29 yards before the injury. He has been the team’s leading receiver in each of the last three weeks.
Entering Sunday’s contest, in seven games, Watson had 25 catches for 452 yards and five touchdowns. His ability to stretch the field has been his biggest asset since returning in Week 8. He had three catches of 40 yards or more.
