On the same day that starting safety Brandon Jones was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury, the Denver Broncos lost a reserve safety to another team.

The New York Jets poached safety Keidron Smith off the Broncos‘ practice squad on Monday, signing him to their active roster. Smith (6-2, 210 pounds) has been with Denver since December of the 2023 season, mostly on the practice squad. He made nine appearances in 2024 but did not play in any games with the Broncos this season.

After placing Jones on IR, the team’s remaining safeties on the active roster are Talanoa Hufanga, P.J. Locke, Devon Key and JL Skinner. After losing Smith to New York, Denver has one safety — Delarrin Turner-Yell — remaining on the practice squad. The Broncos are now entering Week 16 with an open spot on the practice squad.
